International Day |
International Day of Mourning28 April 2007International Day of Mourning for those killed or injured at work, takes place this year on Saturday April 28. UnionsWA will undertake its annual memorial service on Friday April 27 at 9.30am at Solidarity Park. The theme for this year is 'SAFETY FIRST, LAST AND ALWAYS'. Nineteen West Australian workers have died at work so far this financial year. This is already seven more people than were killed at work during 2005/2006. A tragic statistic for all West Australians, particularly the family and friends of those killed. It is a FACT that workplace safety does not "just happen"- it must be constantly worked at. If simple safety precautions are implemented and observed in workplaces the chances of injury or death are reduced. Apply 'SAFETY FIRST, LAST AND ALWAYS'. In line with previous years UnionsWA will hold a prayer vigil, a number of short speeches and the laying of the wreaths at the Wall of Remembrance.
